Growing up in sunny Southern California, surrounded by beautiful beaches, perfect weather, and an active lifestyle, we learned that life’s greatest pleasures mean little without good health. As the ancient physician Herophilus wisely said, “When health is absent, wisdom cannot reveal itself, art cannot become manifest, strength cannot be exerted, wealth is useless, and reason is powerless.” Too often, we only appreciate our health after it begins to fade.

A few years ago, our family made a commitment to eat better and live healthier. The change gave us more energy, renewed our outlook, and helped us appreciate life’s simple joys even more—good food, meaningful friendships, ocean breezes, and time spent with the people we love.
